Shimla: Heavy overnight rains lashed Himachal Pradesh, triggering floods and landslides that claimed the lives of three family members and submerged a bus stand in Mandi.
The fatalities occurred when a house collapsed following a landslide in Boi panchayat, Nehri area, Sundernagar subdivision of Mandi district. Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan confirmed that three bodies have been recovered, while two individuals were rescued.
Officials reported that the downpour caused floods in the Son and Bharand drains in Dharampur, leading to inundation of the bus stand and damage to a workshop, pump houses, shops, and more than 20 buses.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, in a Facebook post, stated: “Dharampur bus stand, over two dozen HRTC buses, shops, a pump house, and a workshop have been damaged.”
In Shimla, a landslide near Himland in the city center buried several vehicles and blocked the main circular road, causing disruption for school-going children.
Gautam and Rahul Shukla, who were sleeping in their vehicle parked near Himland at the time of the landslide, recounted, “It was raining heavily around 1 am when we heard a deafening roar as trees and debris slid down. We quickly moved our vehicles to escape.”
