Jammu: Northern Railways on Sunday ran three special trains from Jammu station, transporting over 1,500 stranded passengers amid continued suspension of regular rail services in the region for the sixth consecutive day.

Authorities also announced the cancellation of 54 trains, both incoming and outgoing, from Jammu and Katra stations on Monday.

The special trains included a Kolkata-bound service at 2 pm carrying around 450–500 passengers, a Chennai-bound train at 4 pm with over 400 passengers, and a Delhi-bound train at 6 pm with 600–650 passengers, officials said.

A dedicated help desk has been set up at Jammu railway station by the Railway Police and local administration to assist stranded travelers.

Northern Railway’s Jammu Division released the list of cancelled trains, citing misalignment and breaches at multiple locations that have suspended traffic between Kathua and Udhampur. However, services on the Katra–Srinagar–Katra route remain operational.

Heavy rains since August 26 have disrupted both rail and road networks, leaving many, especially pilgrims, stranded. A landslide near the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra killed 34 people. The region recorded its heaviest rainfall since 1910 on August 27, with 380 mm of precipitation.
