Srinagar: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, on Saturday said that major initiatives are underway to boost the tourism sector across the Valley, with a special focus on reviving winter tourism and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of Srinagar through ongoing developmental projects.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event organized by SKUAST-Kashmir, Garg said the administration is working to give a strong push to the tourism economy through infrastructure upgrades, beautification drives, and the promotion of local attractions.

He added that the upcoming winter season will see a renewed focus on tourism, with winter-specific events and facilities being launched to attract visitors. “We are making efforts to promote winter tourism on a large scale so that tourists can enjoy the Valley’s beauty throughout the year,” Garg said.

Highlighting Srinagar’s ongoing transformation, Garg noted that the city is getting a major facelift under the Srinagar Smart City Project Limited and the Srinagar Municipal Corporation. “The change is visible everywhere — roads are being macadamized, public spaces redesigned, and several beautification projects are nearing completion. The city truly looks smarter now,” he remarked.

He further revealed that new flower gardens are being developed across Srinagar and other districts to enhance the Valley’s scenic charm and offer new attractions for tourists. “The goal is to make every season in Kashmir unique — from vibrant spring gardens to snow-clad winter landscapes,” Garg said.

The Divisional Commissioner also appreciated the collaborative efforts of various departments, especially SKUAST-Kashmir, in promoting eco-tourism and sustainable initiatives that align with the Valley’s natural beauty.
