Jammu: Traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway was partially restored on Monday, offering relief to hundreds of commuters who had been stranded on the vital route for the past six days.
The 250-km highway, the only all-weather road connecting Kashmir with the rest of India, had been blocked by multiple landslides and road subsidence at several points—particularly at Tharad Bridge and Balli Nallah in Udhampur district, and Maroog in Ramban district—on August 27.
An official from the traffic department said, “The Jammu-Srinagar national highway has been partially reopened for vehicles, and stranded vehicles near the damaged sections in Udhampur are being cleared in a regulated manner.”
On Sunday, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inspected the restoration work along the strategic highway, noting that efforts are ongoing to ensure its complete reopening at the earliest.
