NEW DELHI: The telecom regulator had sought details from Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel regarding reports of the withdrawal of entry-level prepaid tariff plans but has not found any immediate need for intervention, TRAI sources said on Friday.
According to sources, the operators were asked to provide the factual position following reports about the removal of such plans. One operator confirmed the withdrawal and submitted the required filing with TRAI, while the other clarified that the plan remains available, though only through physical stores.
TRAI is currently reviewing the companies’ responses to ensure compliance with regulatory norms. Sources emphasized that, at present, there is no urgency for the regulator to intervene.
The observations come after Jio removed its Rs 249 entry-level prepaid plan (1GB/day for 28 days) from online platforms such as MyJio and Jio.com, though it remains available in stores. Airtel also discontinued its Rs 249 plan offering the same benefits.
