Jammu: Train services resumed from Jammu on Wednesday after a day-long suspension caused by heavy rains, officials said, adding that six trains are scheduled to depart for their destinations.

Northern Railway had on Tuesday night announced the cancellation of 22 trains to and from Jammu and Katra and short-termination of 27 others across the division due to incessant rainfall.

“Train services have been restored from Jammu. Six trains, which were either cancelled or short-terminated, will leave for their destinations today,” a railway official said.

According to the PRO of the Jammu Division, the six restored trains include three that were cancelled and three that were earlier short-terminated. These are the Jammu Tawi–Kamakhya Express, Jammu–Sambalpur, Jammu–Ambedkar Nagar, Jammu–Varanasi, Jammu–Bandra, and Jammu–Chhapra.

On Tuesday, Northern Railway had cancelled 18 trains operating from Katra, Udhampur, and Jammu. Later, the PRO confirmed that the figure stood at 22 cancellations and 27 short-terminations.

The Jammu region has been battered by its heaviest rainfall in decades since Monday night, triggering floods, landslides, damaged bridges and roads, and inundation of homes and farmland, forcing residents to shift to safer areas. Jammu city alone recorded over 380 mm of rainfall in less than 38 hours.

Of the 22 cancelled trains, nine originated from Katra—the base camp for the Vaishno Devi shrine—and one from Jammu, while the rest were incoming services to Katra, Jammu, and Udhampur. However, officials said train operations on the Katra–Srinagar stretch continued without disruption.
