New Delhi, December 1 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged Directors General of Police (DGPs) and senior law enforcement officials to enhance professionalism in policing to transform public perception and strengthen trust between citizens and the police force.
Addressing the annual DGP/IGP conference, the Prime Minister emphasised that police must adopt modern practices, technology-driven solutions, and people-friendly approaches to meet evolving challenges. He said professionalism and transparency are key to building credibility and ensuring effective law enforcement.
PM Modi highlighted the importance of sensitivity in policing, stressing that officers should engage with communities in a manner that fosters confidence and cooperation. He called for continuous training, capacity building, and adoption of best practices to align policing with democratic values.
Officials said the conference also discussed issues of internal security, cybercrime, border management, and counter-terrorism strategies. The Prime Minister reiterated that police reforms must focus on efficiency, accountability, and service orientation.
Authorities added that the government remains committed to supporting police modernisation and equipping forces with advanced tools to meet contemporary security needs.
