New York, Dec 09: President Donald Trump on Monday voiced strong concern over India “dumping rice” into the United States market, saying the move was hurting American farmers and would be dealt with soon. Speaking to reporters, Trump said that the influx of low-priced rice from India was creating an uneven playing field for domestic producers, who have long complained about unfair competition from cheaper imports.
“India should not be dumping rice into the US market; it’s not fair to our farmers, and we will take care of it,” Trump said, making it clear that his administration would step in to protect local growers. He noted that trade officials were already reviewing data related to import volumes, pricing patterns and compliance with trade rules.
According to officials familiar with the discussions, the administration is exploring a range of options, including tighter monitoring of agricultural imports and possible measures to address what it sees as distortions in the market. While no immediate action has been announced, the President said that American farmers can expect a strong response aimed at restoring fairness in trade.
Trump reiterated that his administration remains committed to ensuring that US producers are not undercut by foreign suppliers and that all trade partners must operate within the agreed framework. Further updates are expected once agencies complete their assessments.
