United Nations: Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan addressed the Kashmir issue during the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, expressing his country’s satisfaction with the recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan following earlier tensions this year.

Erdogan emphasized the importance of cooperation between India and Pakistan on counter-terrorism. “The issue of Kashmir should be resolved based on UN resolutions, for the well-being of our brothers and sisters in the region, through dialogue,” he said.

“In South Asia, we consider the preservation of peace and stability to be of utmost importance. We are pleased with the ceasefire achieved following the tensions last April between Pakistan and India, which had escalated into conflict,” Erdogan added during the General Debate.

The Turkish president has previously highlighted Kashmir in his addresses to world leaders at high-level UN sessions.

Earlier this year, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan-administered territories in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. The operation led to four days of intense clashes, which concluded on May 10 with an agreement to halt military actions.
