New Delhi: Delhi Police have detained three individuals, including two doctors from Haryana’s Al Falah University who were acquainted with Dr Umar Nabi — the driver of the car that exploded near the Red Fort — officials said on Saturday.
The detentions followed coordinated raids carried out late Friday by the Delhi Police Special Cell and central agencies in Haryana’s Dhauj, Nuh, and nearby areas, they said.
According to sources, the Special Cell, with support from a National Investigation Agency (NIA) team, picked up two Al Falah University doctors — Mohammad and Mustakim — from Nuh. The duo was allegedly in contact with Dr Muzammil Ganaie, who is under arrest in connection with the broader probe into a suspected “white-collar” terror module, and were also close friends of Dr Umar Nabi.
Preliminary questioning revealed that one of the detained doctors was in Delhi on the day of the blast to attend an interview at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), sources said.
Investigators are now questioning Mohammad and Mustakim to determine the extent of their links with Dr Ganaie and whether they had any role in the larger conspiracy.
In a parallel operation in Nuh, agencies also detained a man identified as Dinesh alias “Dabbu” for selling fertilisers without a licence. Officials are probing whether his activities went beyond illegal trading.
Earlier investigations indicated that members of the terror module pooled around ₹26 lakh, of which ₹3 lakh was used to buy NPK fertiliser, a key component in making IEDs. Police are examining whether Dinesh supplied the fertiliser to the accused.
Meanwhile, officials said Dr Shaheen Sayeed, another Al Falah University doctor arrested in the case, had recently applied for a passport. Police verification for her application was carried out on November 3 at Room No. 29 of the university hostel, where officers also photographed her as part of the standard process.
Authorities are assessing whether her passport application has any relevance to the ongoing investigation.
