Two Cases Filed in Rajouri Over VPN Restrictions

Rajouri, December 1 — Police in Rajouri district have registered two First Information Reports (FIRs) against individuals accused of violating the District Magistrate’s order restricting the use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). The enforcement action was taken during routine naka checking in two police station jurisdictions.

At Manjakote, police apprehended Mohd Nasar, son of Mohd Yakoob, resident of Dheri Raylote, after he was found using a VPN application on his mobile phone. In this regard, FIR No. 107/2025 under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at Police Station Manjakote.

In another incident at Darhal, police intercepted Mohd Mukhtar, son of Mohd Taj, aged 38 years, resident of Madhoon Dodaj, Rajouri, who was found in possession of a mobile phone with a VPN application. A separate case was registered against him at Police Station Darhal.

Officials said the FIRs were lodged in strict enforcement of the prohibitory orders issued by the District Magistrate, aimed at preventing misuse of internet services and safeguarding public order. Police have warned that strict legal action will follow against anyone found breaching the directive.

Authorities reiterated that the ban on VPN usage is a preventive measure to curb unlawful online activities and ensure responsible use of digital platforms. District officials urged residents to comply with the guidelines and avoid practices that contravene legal restrictions.

The registration of FIRs highlights the administration’s resolve to enforce regulations and uphold accountability in matters concerning digital security and public safety.
