PESHAWAR: Two people were killed in a clash between Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants and members of a local peace committee in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, police reported on Sunday.

A peace committee member and a pedestrian lost their lives in the confrontation, while several others sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, authorities said.

The incident took place on Saturday within the jurisdiction of Gul Imam Police Station in Tank district, which borders Afghanistan. Security forces have cordoned off the area and intensified operations to track down militants who managed to escape.

In a separate episode, a security personnel was injured when militants ambushed a convoy of security forces in the Azad Mandi area of Bakakhel, Bannu district, on Saturday. The convoy, traveling from Mir Ali tehsil to Bannu, was targeted near Baran Bridge.

On the same day, police also foiled an attack on their vehicle in the area. The assailants fled following a swift retaliatory response by the security forces.
