Jammu: Two individuals, including an alleged cattle smuggler, were detained under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) on Saturday, Jammu and Kashmir Police said.

According to a police spokesperson, Rehman Ali, a resident of Marh tehsil in Jammu district, was repeatedly involved in cattle smuggling and had multiple FIRs registered against him. He has been lodged in the district jail in Poonch following the execution of a PSA warrant.

In a separate case, Raj Kumar, a resident of Bantalab, was also detained under the PSA for his alleged involvement in activities prejudicial to the maintenance of public order. He too has been shifted to Poonch jail, the spokesperson added.

The Public Safety Act empowers authorities to detain individuals without trial to prevent them from acting in ways that threaten public order or state security.
