Rajouri, Dec 03: Two persons lost their lives and three others sustained injuries in a tragic road accident on the Jammu–Rajouri–Poonch National Highway near Chingus in Rajouri district during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.
Police said that a cab bearing registration number JK12D 7568, travelling from Jammu to Rajouri, rammed into a roadside concrete crash barrier at Chingus, leaving all five occupants critically injured.
The injured were rushed to GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri, where doctors declared Naik Singh (53), son of Puran Singh, resident of Bari Pattan, and Mohd Yaqoob (45), son of Mohd Fazal, resident of Saila Surankote, as brought dead.
The three injured have been identified as Mohd Farooq, son of Mohd Fazal, resident of Saila Surankote; driver Mohd Sageer, son of Mohd Haneef, resident of Digwar Poonch; and Mohd Mushtaq, son of Fazal Hussain, resident of Kakora Manjakote. All are undergoing treatment at GMC Rajouri.
Police have registered a case and initiated further investigation into the circumstances of the accident. Authorities reiterated their appeal to drivers to exercise caution on the Jammu–Rajouri–Poonch Highway, which has witnessed several accidents due to sharp curves and heavy traffic.
