Jammu: Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district have arrested two long-time absconders who had been evading capture for more than a decade in separate criminal cases, officials said.

According to a police spokesperson, Burju, a resident of Chandimarh village, was wanted in a case registered at Surankote police station in 2013 under Section 436 of the Ranbir Penal Code, which pertains to mischief by fire or explosive substances with intent to destroy a dwelling. Despite years of intensive efforts, he had managed to remain underground until a Surankote police team apprehended him on Tuesday.

After completing the necessary legal formalities, the accused was produced before a competent court for further proceedings, the spokesperson added.

In a separate operation, Mohd Rayaz of Gursai was arrested from Mendhar. He had been wanted in a 2017 case registered at Gursai police station under various sections of the RPC, primarily related to criminal trespass, rioting, and causing hurt, police said.
