Rajouri, December 1 — Authorities have ordered the suspension of Virtual Private Network (VPN) services for a period of two months in Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir, citing security concerns.

Officials said the decision was taken following inputs from law enforcement agencies that VPNs were being misused to bypass monitoring systems and facilitate unlawful activities. The suspension order has been issued under Section 5(2) of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885, and relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act.

District Magistrates of Rajouri and Poonch confirmed that the measure is temporary and aimed at strengthening surveillance and preventing misuse of internet services in sensitive border districts. Telecom service providers have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the order.

Authorities added that the suspension will remain in force for two months, subject to review based on the prevailing security situation. They urged citizens to cooperate with the administration, stressing that the step is necessary to maintain public order and national security.

The directive comes amid heightened security measures in border areas, with officials reiterating their commitment to safeguarding peace and stability in the region.
