Kulgam: In a major success, Kulgam Police have arrested two drug offenders who had been on the run for nearly two decades in separate NDPS Act cases registered at Police Station Qazigund.

The accused have been identified as Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh, son of Gh. Qadir Sheikh, a resident of Nassu Badrahgund, who was wanted in FIR No. 107/2005 under Sections 15/18 of the NDPS Act. He was arrested near J&K Bank Qazigund after evading law enforcement for about 20 years.

The second accused, Bilal Ahmad Ganie, son of Gh. Nabi Ganie, a resident of Lalen Ganoor Kulgam and currently residing at Levdora near Railway Bridge Qazigund, was wanted in FIR No. 223/2006 under Sections 15/18 of the NDPS Act. He had been absconding for nearly 19 years before being apprehended.

Both individuals had been evading arrest for years and are now in police custody. Their capture underscores the sustained efforts of Kulgam Police to track down long-term fugitives involved in narcotics-related offences.

SSP Kulgam, Anayat Choudhary (IPS), while commending the police teams, reiterated that Kulgam Police remains committed to bringing all offenders—particularly those engaged in drug trafficking—to justice. “The drive against absconders will continue to ensure that no one escapes the reach of law,” the statement added.
