Srinagar: Railways has introduced two dedicated parcel vans to transport fruits from Kashmir to Jammu and Delhi, officials announced on Thursday.
The initiative comes as a major relief for the Valley’s horticulture sector, which has faced heavy losses due to the prolonged closure of National Highway-44 following torrential rains and floods.
According to railway officials, the parcel vans will operate from Budgam station, with one heading to Delhi and the other to Jammu, carrying freshly harvested Kashmiri apples.
They said the move marks a new phase in Kashmir’s logistics, ensuring a faster and more reliable supply chain for the region’s renowned horticultural produce.
“By reducing reliance on disrupted road transport, these rail services open a bold new chapter for Kashmir’s commerce — boosting the horticulture industry and giving fresh momentum to the Valley’s economy,” the officials added.
