Two suspects apprehended after extended pursuit; drug dealer caught with heroin in J&K

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested two individuals wanted in connection with separate cases registered in Udhampur and Rajouri districts between 2015 and 2020, officials said on Monday.

In a related operation, a drug peddler was also apprehended in Rajouri with six grams of heroin, a police spokesman added.

Rajinder Kumar, also known as ‘Nittu’, a resident of Sewna village, was arrested from the Chenani area of Udhampur. He was wanted in a 2020 case registered at Chenani Police Station under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. An arrest warrant under Section 299 CrPC was issued by the Additional Sessions Court, Udhampur, to ensure his appearance in court. Acting on this warrant, police apprehended Kumar, produced him before the court, and subsequently lodged him in the District Jail, Udhampur.

Meanwhile, a police team from Khawas post arrested Layaqat Ali, a resident of Gundha village, at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi. Ali had been evading law after a 2015 case at Budhal Police Station in Rajouri under sections related to rioting and voluntarily causing hurt. He has been produced before the Budhal court for further legal proceedings.

Additionally, Javed Iqbal, a resident of Panjgrain-Thanamandi, was caught during patrolling at Bella Bus Stand in Rajouri with six grams of heroin. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered, and further investigations are underway.
