Udhampur, Dec 03: A tragic road accident on the Tikri stretch in Udhampur district claimed the life of a Srinagar resident and left two others critically injured on Tuesday. The mishap has once again raised concerns over road safety on the busy highway.
The deceased was identified as Waleed Ahmad, a driver by profession and a resident of Bemina area in Srinagar. Police said the vehicle he was driving met with a severe accident, and the impact was so intense that he suffered fatal injuries and died on the spot.
Two other occupants of the vehicle sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment. Hospital authorities confirmed that both are undergoing intensive care and their condition remains critical.
Eyewitnesses attributed the accident to poor road conditions and heavy traffic movement along the stretch. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the mishap.
Local residents expressed grief over the incident and urged authorities to strengthen safety measures on the highway to prevent such tragedies in the future.
