New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has urged schools nationwide to ensure timely Aadhaar biometric updates for children aged 5 to 15 years.
UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar has written to the Chief Secretaries of all states and Union Territories, requesting the completion of pending mandatory biometric updates by organizing camps in schools, according to an official statement on Wednesday.
“UIDAI has collaborated with the Department of School Education and Literacy to provide the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) status of school children’s Aadhaar on the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) platform. This will facilitate the MBU process for crores of students,” the statement noted.
The authority stressed that biometric updates must be completed for children at age five and again at 15, to maintain the accuracy and reliability of Aadhaar data.
Nearly 17 crore Aadhaar numbers are yet to undergo the mandatory biometric update. Failure to update a child’s biometrics could cause issues with Aadhaar authentication for accessing government benefits, as well as registration in competitive and university examinations, including NEET, JEE, and CUET.
UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar has also informed the Chief Secretaries about the initiative and sought their support for targeted MBU camps. “A school-based camp approach can help complete pending MBUs efficiently,” Kumar stated in his letter.
To address the challenge of identifying students who have not completed their updates, UIDAI’s technology teams partnered with the Department of School Education and Literacy to develop a solution via the UDISE+ platform. “Schools now have full visibility of pending MBUs,” Kumar added.
