New Delhi, Dec 03: The Union Home Ministry has appointed senior advocate Madhav Khurana as the Special Public Prosecutor in the Red Fort blast case. The appointment comes as part of the government’s efforts to ensure effective prosecution in one of the most high-profile terror cases in the capital.
Khurana, known for his expertise in criminal law and handling sensitive cases, will represent the prosecution before the Patiala House Court. Officials said his appointment is aimed at strengthening the legal proceedings and expediting the trial process.
The Red Fort blast case, dating back to December 2000, involved a terrorist attack on the historic monument that claimed the lives of security personnel. The case has since been under trial with multiple accused, including Amir Rashid Ali, produced before the court in recent hearings.
Legal experts noted that the appointment of a Special Public Prosecutor underscores the seriousness with which the government is pursuing the matter. Khurana is expected to coordinate closely with investigative agencies to present evidence and arguments effectively.
The Home Ministry emphasized that the move reflects its commitment to ensuring justice in cases of national security and to uphold the rule of law. The next hearing in the case is scheduled later this month at Patiala House Court.
