The United Nations Security Council has approved a historic resolution endorsing former U.S. President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, marking a significant diplomatic development in efforts to stabilise the region. The resolution, which passed with a notable majority, also authorises the deployment of an international force to ensure security, facilitate humanitarian aid, and support the implementation of the agreement on the ground.
The plan, presented as a framework to end ongoing hostilities and create conditions for long-term peace, includes provisions for ceasefire monitoring, reconstruction assistance, and coordinated humanitarian corridors. The newly approved international force will work under a UN mandate to protect civilians, oversee aid delivery, and prevent further escalation.
Global leaders have welcomed the move as a potential breakthrough, though some member states voiced concerns about long-term political implications and the need for inclusive dialogue involving all affected parties. Regional stakeholders have been urged to cooperate fully with the UN-led mechanism to ensure stability and prevent a humanitarian crisis.
The UN Secretary-General expressed hope that the resolution will pave the way for sustained peace efforts, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to supporting the people of Gaza and fostering a secure, peaceful future for the wider region.
