Jammu: The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board on Friday night announced the suspension of the pilgrimage to the cave shrine atop Trikuta hills in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district from October 5 to 7 following an inclement weather advisory issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Over 1.70 lakh devotees visited the shrine during Navratri, with the Yatra proceeding smoothly until now, officials said.

“In view of the weather advisory, the Vaishno Devi Yatra shall remain suspended from October 5 to 7,” the Shrine Board posted on X, adding that the pilgrimage will resume on October 8 and urging devotees to follow official updates.

The suspension, officials noted, is a precautionary measure against potential landslides, flooding, and cloudbursts due to heavy rainfall.

The Yatra had only recently resumed on September 17 after a 22-day halt caused by a devastating landslide on August 26 that killed 34 people and injured 20 others.
