DODA: The International Girl Child Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHSS) Doda under the supervision of the District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO). The event was organized by the Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women (SHEW), Social Welfare Department Doda, as part of the ongoing Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) campaign, aimed at promoting gender equality and empowering girls through education and awareness.

The celebration underscored the crucial role of girls in shaping a progressive and inclusive society. A series of activities, including painting and debate competitions, were held where students showcased their creativity and shared inspiring ideas on empowerment, equal rights, and education for girls. These events encouraged young participants to reflect on the challenges faced by girls and suggest innovative ways to achieve gender equity.

Adding colour and vibrancy to the occasion, students presented a lively cultural programme featuring dance and song performances that celebrated confidence, courage, and empowerment. The performances conveyed a strong message about breaking stereotypes and expanding opportunities for girls across all fields.

Teachers and officials also delivered motivational speeches, emphasizing the importance of community support in nurturing the potential of every girl child.

The programme concluded with an inspiring address by the DSWO Doda, who commended the efforts of the organizers and participants. The officer reaffirmed the Social Welfare Department and SHEW’s commitment—along with the One Stop Centre Sakhi and Women Helpline 181—to creating a safer, inclusive, and empowering environment for women and girls in the district.

The celebration served as a powerful reminder that empowering girls today is the key to building a stronger, more equitable nation tomorrow.
