LOS ANGELES: Bollywood action star Vidyut Jammwal, renowned for his role in the Commando film franchise, has joined the cast of the upcoming live-action adaptation of Street Fighter.
As reported by entertainment outlet Deadline, the 44-year-old actor will portray Dhalsim, a popular character from the classic video game series.
Street Fighter, inspired by Capcom’s iconic video game franchise launched in 1987, is being helmed by director Kitao Sakurai, known for Bad Trip and Aardvark.
The film’s ensemble cast includes David Dastmalchian as the villain, along with Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns, Orville Peck, and Andrew Schulz.
The original Street Fighter game became a global phenomenon for its intense one-on-one martial arts battles, centered around an international fighting tournament organized by the villainous M. Bison. To date, the franchise has sold over 55 million units worldwide.
Jammwal was last seen in Crack: Jeetegaa Toh Jiyegaa, a sports-action film that premiered in theatres on February 23, 2024. Directed by Aditya Datt, the movie follows a young man’s rise from the slums of Mumbai to the adrenaline-fueled world of extreme sports, co-starring Amy Jackson, Arjun Rampal, and Nora Fatehi.
