Vivo’s OriginOS Finally Coming to India

Vivo’s OriginOS, which has long been exclusive to Chinese models, is now set to make its debut on Indian devices. The company has officially confirmed that both Vivo and iQOO phones in India will see a shift in their software, moving from the current Funtouch OS to OriginOS.

Until now, Indian variants of Vivo and iQOO devices have relied on Funtouch OS, but that is set to change with the upcoming iQOO 15 and Vivo X300 series later this year. Rumors about OriginOS coming to India first surfaced in July, and both brands have now made it official.

What’s Changing

Earlier reports suggested that the Vivo V60 might be the first to launch in India with OriginOS. However, it now appears Vivo is reserving the new software for its premium flagship models. The Chinese version of OriginOS lacks Google services such as the Play Store, which Vivo will need to integrate for the Indian market. The company has previously indicated that it is assessing the feasibility of replacing Funtouch OS with OriginOS in India but has not provided a clear timeline.

Users who have experienced OriginOS on Chinese devices describe it as smoother and more polished than Funtouch OS. While Vivo hardware has consistently been solid, software experience—particularly on premium X-series devices—has often fallen short. That’s likely to change with the launch of the X300 series and the iQOO 15.

What About Older Devices?

The arrival of OriginOS in India raises an important question: will older devices also receive the update, or will they continue with Funtouch OS? Vivo is expected to clarify this ahead of the big launch next month, when the X300 series will be unveiled in China, with an Indian launch likely to follow later this year.
