Private Water Tankers Allowed to Resume Independent Operations
JAMMU: With the water supply situation across Jammu city showing significant improvement, private water tankers have been permitted to resume independent operations with immediate effect.
Earlier, the services of private tankers were placed under the regulatory supervision of the Jal Shakti Department following directives from Jal Shakti Minister Javed Ahmed Rana, in response to a severe water shortage affecting several areas of the district. This temporary measure ensured fair distribution, price regulation, and uninterrupted access to safe drinking water during the crisis.
Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Jal Shakti Department, district authorities, and field staff, normal water supply has now been restored in around 80% of affected localities. In areas still facing shortages, alternative measures—including deployment of water tankers, borewell supplies, and temporary water stations—are operating effectively to meet public demand.
The Jal Shakti Minister has appreciated the cooperation of private water suppliers during this critical period, acknowledging their role in stabilizing the situation. As private operators resume services, they are expected to adhere strictly to guidelines, safety protocols, and quality standards.
The government will continue to monitor the water supply closely to prevent disruptions or misuse of services. The Jal Shakti Department reaffirms its commitment to providing safe, reliable, and adequate drinking water to every resident and expresses gratitude to the public for their patience and cooperation throughout the challenging period.
