NEW DELHI: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said India’s top investigative agencies are conducting a swift and thorough probe into the Delhi blast, assuring that those behind the tragedy “will not be spared.”

Twelve people were killed after a powerful explosion ripped through a slow-moving car at a traffic signal near the Red Fort metro station on Monday evening. Authorities are yet to confirm the cause of the blast.

“I want to assure my fellow citizens that the country’s premier investigative agencies are carrying out a prompt and comprehensive inquiry into the incident,” Singh said while addressing a defence conclave.

“The findings of the investigation will be shared soon. I firmly assure the nation that those responsible for this tragic act will be brought to justice and will not be spared under any circumstances,” he added.

Expressing his condolences, the defence minister said, “I extend my deepest sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident. May God grant them strength and peace in this difficult time.”

According to the Delhi Police, nine people were initially confirmed dead in the explosion, while the toll rose to 12 on Tuesday after three more victims succumbed to their injuries.
