WhatsApp Brings AI Writing Help For Chats: What You Need To Know
WhatsApp is expanding its AI-powered tools with a new feature designed to improve the tone, style, and accuracy of your chats. Called Writing Help, the tool lets users refine their messages before sending them to friends or family.
The feature was first spotted in beta testing earlier this month and is now rolling out gradually for all users. Unlike earlier AI features such as image generation or travel itinerary creation, this update focuses specifically on enhancing conversations.
How Writing Help Works
Powered by Meta AI, Writing Help can edit, summarise, or even generate messages for you. It offers multiple tone options—Rephrase, Professional, Funny, and Proofread—so you can tailor your message to different contexts. Importantly, you still have the choice to send your original text without AI assistance.
To use it, simply draft a message and tap the pencil icon, where Meta AI will suggest improvements or tone adjustments. Selecting a tone instantly restructures the text while keeping the meaning intact.
Privacy and Security
WhatsApp says AI-edited messages won’t carry any labels, so recipients won’t know if you used Writing Help. All processing happens privately, and features like Writing Help and Message Summaries remain optional and off by default.
What’s Next
WhatsApp is also testing voice chat with Meta AI on Android. This feature will let users interact with an AI assistant via a Siri-like halo icon, providing spoken answers alongside on-screen text. With testing in advanced stages, a wider rollout could be coming soon.
