WhatsApp Introduces Real-Time Chat Translation for Android and iOS Users

WhatsApp is rolling out real-time chat translations for both Android and iOS, allowing users to read messages in different languages without any manual setup. The feature is gradually being made available to all mobile users over the coming days.

While WhatsApp has long supported message translations, real-time translations have been limited—until now. The new update promises to enhance usability, helping millions communicate seamlessly across languages. With Meta AI integration, WhatsApp continues to evolve beyond a simple messaging app, offering a wider range of smart features.

How Real-Time Translation Works

The feature supports personal chats, group messages, and channel updates. Initially, Android users can translate messages in languages like English, Spanish, Hindi, Russian, and Portuguese, while iPhone users will have access to 19 languages.

To use it, simply long-press a message to reveal the Translate option. WhatsApp will prompt users to download the relevant language pack for translation. Android users will benefit from automatic real-time translations without needing to adjust settings. Importantly, all translations are processed on-device, so WhatsApp cannot access the content of your messages.

Updates to Disappearing Messages

WhatsApp is also experimenting with more flexible disappearing chat options. Currently, messages can vanish after 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days. The new update could allow chats to disappear in as little as one hour or 12 hours, giving users greater control over privacy.

This expanded feature set reinforces WhatsApp’s commitment to secure, seamless communication while catering to the needs of a global user base.
