WhatsApp’s Upcoming AI Tools Will Help You Edit and Create Messages with Privacy in Mind
WhatsApp is ramping up its AI efforts, introducing new tools designed to make your messages more polished and engaging—while keeping your privacy protected.
In the latest beta version (Android v2.25.23.7), a feature called Writing Help has been spotted. Powered by Meta AI, this tool lets users refine, rephrase, or even create messages before sending them. It offers various tones and contexts such as Rephrase, Professional, Funny, and Proofread, allowing you to match the style of your message to the situation. You can still send your original text if you prefer—AI editing is entirely optional.
Privacy remains a key focus. Meta’s private processing technology ensures that even if AI assists with your messages, they remain encrypted and your identity stays anonymous. Recipients won’t see any labels or indicators that a message was AI-assisted. The feature is off by default and can be enabled in your account settings.
Meta AI’s role in WhatsApp isn’t limited to text. The platform is also testing voice chats with the AI assistant. Similar to Siri, the chatbot will feature a dynamic halo icon and can respond to spoken commands, answer queries, and even cite sources for credibility. To function, it will request permission to use your phone’s microphone and speaker.
In recent months, Meta has been expanding AI capabilities across its platforms, including WhatsApp and Instagram—ranging from generating images to building travel itineraries. With Writing Help and voice AI features in the works, WhatsApp is set to become a more versatile communication tool without compromising security.
