A doctor from Haryana, Dr Priyanka Sharma, has been detained by the J&K Police in south Kashmir after her name surfaced in a high-level investigation into a sophisticated “white-collar” terror module. Sharma, originally from Rohtak and posted at the Government Medical College in Anantnag, was picked up during a raid on her rented flat in the Malaknag area.
According to investigators, her involvement came to light during the interrogation of a former staffer at the same college, whose call-detail records pointed authorities to Sharma’s residence. A mobile phone and SIM card recovered from the location are now being subjected to forensic analysis.
The broader probe, triggered by the recent deadly car blast near the Red Fort in Delhi, has since expanded across multiple states. Authorities in Uttar Pradesh are now reviewing hundreds of medical students and doctors of Kashmiri origin, probing their links to the terror network.
Sharma’s detention is part of a wider crackdown: two doctors from Haryana’s Al-Falah University have also been arrested, alongside investigations into large-scale fertilizer purchases and pooling of funds—around ₹26 lakh—for the procurement of explosives.
A Haryana police team is expected in Anantnag to verify Sharma’s background. Investigators are working to determine whether her role was operational or logistical, and how deeply she may be embedded in the terror network.
