Shopian, December 1 — A massive forest fire broke out in the Chowan Keller area of Shopian district, prompting authorities to deploy multiple teams to contain the blaze.

Officials said the fire spread rapidly due to dry weather conditions and thick vegetation, threatening nearby forest compartments. Fire and Forest Department personnel, assisted by local volunteers, rushed to the site to prevent the flames from spreading further.

Emergency response teams are working with limited resources to douse the fire, using traditional methods alongside modern equipment. Authorities confirmed that additional reinforcements have been dispatched to strengthen the operation.

Local residents expressed concern over the damage to green cover and wildlife habitat, urging authorities to intensify efforts to safeguard the forest. Officials said the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and an inquiry will be conducted once the situation is brought under control.

The incident highlights the growing vulnerability of Kashmir’s forest areas to fire hazards, with officials reiterating the need for community vigilance and preventive measures.
