Forde (Norway): Indian weightlifting star Mirabai Chanu (48kg) clinched a silver medal at the World Championships, adding another podium finish to her illustrious career. The 2017 world champion and 2022 silver-medallist lifted a total of 199kg (84kg snatch + 115kg clean and jerk) after moving down from the 49kg category.

Chanu faced setbacks in the snatch, failing twice at 87kg, but bounced back strongly in the clean and jerk, completing lifts of 109kg, 112kg, and 115kg with ease. This was her best clean and jerk performance since the Tokyo Olympics 2021, where she had also lifted 115kg to win silver.

Chief coach Vijay Sharma had earlier said the target at this championship was to cross the 200kg mark and gradually return to her 49kg-level performances.

North Korea’s Ri Song Gum took the gold with a record-breaking 213kg (91kg + 122kg), setting new world records in both total and clean and jerk. Thailand’s Thanyathon Sukcharoen claimed bronze with 198kg (88kg + 110kg).
