Srinagar: The Border Security Force (BSF) Kashmir Frontier will host the “Save Wular Run with Borderman” marathon on October 12, 2025, as part of its environmental conservation efforts.
The marathon aims to raise environmental awareness, strengthen community bonds, and inspire youth to pursue positive goals, according to a release from Wular Half Marathon 2.0.
The T-shirt unveiling ceremony for the event took place at the Hangul Officer’s Institute, BSF Frontier HQ, Humhama, with distinguished guests in attendance, including Satish S. Khandare, IPS, ADG, HQ Spl DG (WC) Chandigarh; Soloman Minz, IPS, IG STC Kashmir; Ashok Yadav, IPS, IG, BSF Kashmir Frontier; and Shashank Anand, IPS, IG, BSF Jammu Frontier.
The marathon will feature three race categories—5 km, 10 km, and 21.1 km—open to both men and women. Around 3,000 participants from across the country, particularly from the Kashmir Valley, are expected to take part.
Free registration for the event is now open. The marathon will also help identify local talent and provide sponsorship under the ‘Khelo India’ scheme of the Sports Authority of India (SAI), enabling further training and participation in national and international running events.
Wular Half Marathon 2.0 is dedicated to protecting Kashmir’s ecological heritage, especially Wular Lake, one of the largest freshwater lakes in the Indian subcontinent. Under the banner “Save Wular, Run with Borderman,” the event promotes environmental awareness, sportsmanship, and tourism in the valley.
In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ initiative, the BSF has emphasized training Indian breed dogs, successfully adding 150 canines to its dog squad teams to strengthen operational capabilities.
