Xiaomi seems to be taking a leaf out of Apple’s book when it comes to design and naming, and its upcoming flagship lineup makes this very clear. Skipping the 16-series entirely, Xiaomi is set to launch the new Xiaomi 17 series this year. The company even teased its Pro models earlier this week, hinting that Apple-inspired design cues may once again define its devices. Even the naming feels familiar, especially with the latest leaked clip of the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, which leaves little to the imagination.
The iPhone 17 Pro series introduced a redesigned camera layout, separating the flash from the sensors. Xiaomi’s 17 Pro seems to adopt a similar design while adding a second display at the back—a feature reminiscent of the Mi 11 Ultra from a few years ago.
Xiaomi 17 Pro Max: What to Expect
It appears Xiaomi is moving away from the Ultra branding, reintroducing it as the 17 Pro Max for its next flagship. The recent teaser highlights the camera module and a larger rear display. Leica branding remains, and the LED flash sits below the module, outside of the main cluster. The teaser, shared on Weibo, was later removed.
The 17 series is expected to include three models: Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max, with the possibility of additional mid-range versions later. The flagship lineup is likely to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, with official confirmation expected later this month.
The devices should come with HyperOS 3.0 out of the box, while Xiaomi continues testing Android 16 beta builds behind the scenes.
With Leica onboard, the Pro Max variant is expected to feature top-tier cameras and significant upgrades. The Xiaomi 17 series is anticipated to launch in China in the coming weeks, before gradually expanding to other regions.
