Yashasvi Jaiswal to play for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy clash against Rajasthan

New Delhi: India’s opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal is set to represent Mumbai in their Elite Group D Ranji Trophy fixture against Rajasthan, scheduled to begin on November 1 in Jaipur.

Jaiswal, who was part of India’s recent three-match ODI series in Australia, did not feature in any game during the tour. With India preparing to host South Africa for two Tests starting November 14 in Kolkata, the young opener is aiming to stay match-ready ahead of the high-profile series.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Jaiswal has communicated his availability to Mumbai chairman of selectors Sanjay Patil, who, along with his panel, will finalize the squad for the Rajasthan match after the ongoing round concludes.

The 23-year-old last turned out for Mumbai in a Ranji Trophy group-stage match against Jammu & Kashmir at the BKC Ground, the same fixture that marked Rohit Sharma’s much-discussed return to domestic cricket after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

If selected, this will mark Jaiswal’s first appearance for Mumbai since May, when he reaffirmed his commitment to the team following a brief move to seek a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to play for Goa. His most recent domestic outing came in August, representing West Zone in the Duleep Trophy in Bengaluru.

Since making his first-class debut in 2019, Jaiswal has featured in 46 matches, amassing 4,520 runs at an impressive average of 56.50, including 16 centuries. During the 2021–22 Ranji season, he was instrumental in Mumbai’s run to the final, scoring 498 runs in three matches at an average of 83.00, with three hundreds and a fifty.

In limited-overs cricket, Jaiswal has registered 1,526 runs in 33 List-A games at an average of 52.62, alongside 3,537 runs in T20s at an average of 33.05 and a strike rate above 149, with three centuries and 17 half-centuries to his name.
