Jammu: A video showing an attack on a vehicle carrying religious preachers in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district has gone viral, leading to the suspension of a sub-inspector and seven special police officers (SPOs), officials said on Friday.
Police have also arrested one person in connection with the assault, an official added.
“In the Juthana area under the jurisdiction of Rajbagh police station, a group of youths armed with sticks attacked a vehicle transporting religious preachers. The viral video shows police personnel present at the spot but unable to intervene promptly,” the official said.
The main accused, identified as Ravindra Singh Thela, along with his associates, has a history of criminal cases, the official added.
Following the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua, Mohita Sharma, ordered the suspension of the sub-inspector and seven SPOs for alleged negligence of duty.
An FIR has been registered, and one accused has been taken into custody, while efforts are underway to trace and arrest the remaining suspects, police said.
