Srinagar: Police on Friday arrested a man in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district for allegedly posing as a senior police officer.
According to officials, during routine checking in the Kokernag area of south Kashmir, a police team stopped Umer Mochi, a resident of Zalangam, who was carrying a bag. On spotting the police, he tried to flee but was caught by the personnel.
Upon inspection, the team recovered a uniform bearing the rank insignia of a Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) from his bag.
Initial investigation suggested that the accused had been using the uniform to impersonate a senior officer with the intent to mislead the public, a police spokesperson said.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
