Apple Could Skip iPhone 18, Introduce First Foldable in 2026
While the iPhone 18 launch is still some time away, Apple may be planning major changes in 2026 that could extend into 2027. According to a South Korean media report, the company might skip the iPhone 18 entirely next year and instead introduce its first foldable iPhone, signaling a significant shift in its lineup.
Traditionally, the iPhone 18 has been Apple’s “affordable premium” model, with the iPhone SE now positioned below it. If the iPhone 18 is replaced, the iPhone 18 Air could serve as the entry-level model for next year’s series, followed by the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max (or Ultra) variants.
No End to the iPhone 18, Just a New Launch Strategy
ETNews reports that Apple is rethinking its launch strategy to accommodate the foldable device. The 2026 iPhone lineup may include the 18 Air, the 18 Pro series, and the first foldable iPhone. Later, in early 2027, Apple could release the iPhone 18e along with the standard iPhone 18 during its Spring event. Delaying a model to introduce a new product could help Apple manage production demands efficiently.
Apple seems intent on using its major platform to highlight the foldable iPhone—a smart move, considering the company often sees lower demand in the early months of the year. This strategy could encourage more buyers to upgrade to new iPhones.
The Foldable iPhone: Collaboration with Samsung Likely
Apple’s first foldable iPhone will likely rely on external partners, with Samsung expected to supply foldable displays and other key components, according to Bloomberg. The device may follow a design similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series. The first Apple foldable is expected to cost over $2,000 (around Rs 1,72,500), placing it firmly in the premium segment.
