Google News Introduces Preferred Sources for Personalized Content
Google News, used by millions worldwide, is now offering a new way to personalize the content you see with its Preferred Sources feature. The app, popular for keeping users updated on politics, sports, and more, has refined its curation over the years. Now, for the first time, Google allows users to easily access news from the sources they prefer.
Preferred Sources: Available in the US and India
The Preferred Sources feature lets users follow their favorite blogs and news sites, ensuring updates from these sources appear more prominently. This personalization minimizes content from less relevant sources, giving you a cleaner, more tailored news experience.
How to Use Google Preferred Sources
Setting up your preferred sources is simple:
- Open the Google website or search for any news topic.
- Click the icon next to the Top Stories tab.
- Search for your preferred sources in the drop-down menu and select them.
- Click Refresh to see the changes reflected on your screen.
Google explains, “Once you select your sources, they will appear more frequently in Top Stories or in a dedicated ‘From your sources’ section on the search results page.” While curated sources will appear more often, content from other sites can still show up, and you can manage your selections anytime through settings.
There’s no limit to the number of preferred sources you can add, reflecting feedback from early Labs users who valued this flexibility. The update also benefits publishers, allowing them to reach more users and increase visibility and readership on the platform.
Other Updates: Google Gemini AI
Alongside Preferred Sources, Google’s Gemini AI has received two new updates:
Temporary Chats: Works like Chrome’s incognito mode, where chats are not stored or used for AI training.
Improved File Controls: Offers better ways to manage how Gemini handles files such as photos and videos.
