Kulgam: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Kulgam Police has attached another property belonging to a notorious drug peddler, Shahzad Ahmad Dar, son of Late Mohd Rajab Dar, a resident of Vedow Mishipora, under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, 1985.
Dar is involved in case FIR No. 62/2021 under Sections 8/15-29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Qaimoh, in which around 520 kilograms of poppy straw were seized from a load carrier. Following the investigation, he was detained under the PIT NDPS Act and is currently lodged in Kot Bhalwal Jail, Jammu.
During the investigation, Police Station Qaimoh discovered that the accused had accumulated illegally earned assets worth approximately ₹36 lakh from the proceeds of drug trafficking. Acting on this finding, the police attached his single-storey residential house at Vedow Mishipora in the presence of local residents and the Executive Magistrate.
This action is part of Kulgam Police’s sustained campaign to dismantle the financial infrastructure of the narcotics trade and curb the spread of drug abuse in the district. The move has been widely welcomed by locals, who praised the police for their firm stand against the growing drug menace and expressed hope that such actions will deter others from engaging in illegal activities.
SSP Kulgam, Anayat Ali Choudhary (IPS), reaffirmed that the police will continue their efforts with full intensity to ensure that no one profits from drug-related crimes. He emphasized the department’s commitment to making Kulgam a drug-free district, vowing strict action against all individuals involved in narcotic smuggling and the attachment of their illegally acquired properties.
Kulgam Police has also urged the public to report any information regarding drug peddlers or trafficking activities in their areas. Citizens can share such information confidentially with the nearest police station or through official helpline numbers. Police reiterated that community cooperation is vital in the collective fight to make the district drug-free.
