BUDGAM: The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Budgam bypoll, Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, has been issued a show-cause notice for allegedly holding late-night political rallies without permission.
According to the notice, the Nodal Officer for the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) stated that multiple complaints and reports were received alleging that Mehdi conducted campaign events and processions during late-night hours on November 1 and November 3, without prior approval from the competent authorities.
“Videos of these rallies circulated widely on social media, providing prima facie evidence of the violations. Such activities are seen as disrupting the level playing field, undermining the fairness of the electoral process, and breaching the Model Code of Conduct currently in force in Budgam district for the ongoing by-election,” the notice reads.
The candidate has been directed to submit a written explanation within 24 hours, justifying why action should not be taken against him. He has also been cautioned that any further violation of the MCC will attract strict legal action.
