New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India Ltd on Wednesday announced that it has surpassed the 3 crore cumulative sales milestone in the domestic market.
According to the company, it took 28 years and 2 months to achieve the first 1 crore sales mark, while the next 1 crore units were sold in 7 years and 5 months. The latest crore milestone was reached in a record 6 years and 4 months, the automaker said in a statement.
Among the 3 crore units sold, the Alto remains the most popular model with over 47 lakh units, followed by the Wagon R with around 34 lakh units, and the Swift with over 32 lakh units. Compact SUVs such as the Brezza and Fronx also feature among the company’s top ten bestsellers.
“With car penetration at approximately 33 vehicles per 1,000 people, our journey is far from over,” said Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India. “We will continue striving to bring the joy of mobility to as many people as possible,” he added.
The company’s journey began on December 14, 1983, when it delivered the first Maruti 800 to a customer. Today, Maruti Suzuki offers over 170 variants across 19 models in its portfolio.
