Budgam: Campaigning for the upcoming Budgam bypoll, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday accused Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of abandoning the constituency after last year’s assembly elections.
“Before the elections, he (Omar) had said he would retain the seat where he secured more votes. Yet, despite getting more votes here, he chose to leave Budgam,” Mehbooba said while addressing a public rally in support of PDP candidate Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi.
The Budgam assembly seat, vacated by Abdullah after he decided to retain Ganderbal, will go to polls on November 11. A total of 17 candidates are contesting, including NC’s Aga Syed Mehmood.
“How many times has he (Abdullah) visited Budgam in the past year? I am not saying everything could have been done in a year, but when leaders fail to keep their promises, how can people trust them?” Mehbooba questioned.
The former chief minister urged voters to choose change, saying Budgam had supported the National Conference for decades without seeing real progress. “For 50 years, Budgam has elected NC leaders—made them ministers, even chief minister. Now it’s time for people to take charge and shape a brighter future by choosing an alternative,” she said.
