Jammu: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh on Sunday announced that the administration in Ramban will identify alternative locations to permanently resettle residents living in ecologically vulnerable areas of the hilly district.

Speaking at a public durbar in Ramban—part of his ongoing outreach campaign to directly engage with people in his parliamentary constituency—Dr. Singh interacted with several public delegations from different parts of the district, including rural areas. He patiently heard their concerns and demands related to development and rehabilitation.

“The administration will identify alternative sites for the permanent resettlement of people living in ecologically sensitive zones of the district. Residents of these areas remain under constant threat during natural calamities such as the recent floods,” the minister said.

He also informed that restoration work on damaged stretches of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is nearing completion.

The public durbar was convened in the aftermath of the recent floods that wreaked havoc across several districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Ramban was among the worst-affected areas, where torrential rains and flash floods caused extensive damage to roads and other public infrastructure in multiple villages.
