Srinagar,: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Saturday informed the High Court of J&K and Ladakh that all necessary arrangements have been made to enable detained MLA Mehraj Malik to cast his vote in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.

Appearing before Justice Rajesh Sekhri, Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi, assisted by Senior Additional Advocate General Monika Kohli, submitted that the government had already dispatched Malik’s postal ballot to the competent authority, ensuring his participation in the election scheduled for October 24, 2025.

The submission came during the hearing of an application filed by Malik, seeking permission both to vote and to attend the forthcoming Assembly session. While Senior Advocate Rahul Pant and his legal team pressed for urgent consideration of these requests, the government’s counsel clarified that the voting issue had already been addressed.

The Court, however, observed that the government’s written response was not yet on record. It directed the registry to place the reply properly and listed the matter for October 27, 2025, to specifically examine Malik’s plea for physical participation in the Assembly session beginning October 23.

Additionally, the Court instructed the government to ensure that Malik is permitted to vote in accordance with legal provisions.

Sources said that postal ballots had been dispatched to District Jail Kathua, where Malik is currently detained.
