Pulwama: Police Nab Impersonator Posing as SOG Officer, Accused of Extortion
Srinagar: Acting on credible intelligence, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday arrested a man in Pulwama for allegedly impersonating a police officer and extorting money from locals.
The accused has been identified as Altaf Ahmad Dar, son of Assadullah Dar, a resident of Marval Kakpora. According to police, Dar had been posing as an officer of the Special Operations Group (SOG) Srinagar, threatening people and demanding money under false pretences.
A case has been registered under FIR No. 74/2025 in accordance with Sections 319 and 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused is currently in custody.
During the investigation, several individuals have reported being harassed and intimidated by the impersonator, and their statements have been recorded. Police said efforts are ongoing to identify any additional victims.
Reaffirming its commitment to protect citizens from fraud and deception, the J&K Police urged the public to promptly report any suspicious or unlawful activities to the nearest police station.
