Jackie Shroff Pays Tribute to Bhupen Hazarika on His 14th Death Anniversary

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff fondly remembered the legendary Assamese musician Bhupen Hazarika on his 14th death anniversary on Wednesday.

Taking to Instagram Stories, Jackie shared a monochrome picture of Hazarika along with the iconic song “Dil Hoom Hoom Kare”, sung by Bhupen Hazarika and Lata Mangeshkar for the 1993 film “Rudaali.”

In his tribute, Jackie wrote, “Remembering Bhupen Hazarika ji on his death anniversary.”

Bhupen Hazarika, celebrated for his soulful compositions rooted in humanity and universal brotherhood, primarily wrote songs in Assamese, many of which were later translated into Bengali and Hindi. His works, known for promoting communal harmony, justice, and compassion, continue to resonate deeply across Assam, West Bengal, and Bangladesh.

Hazarika is credited with bringing the rich folk traditions and culture of Assam and Northeast India to mainstream Hindi cinema. Over his illustrious career, he received numerous honours, including the National Film Award for Best Music Direction (1975), the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Dadasaheb Phalke Award, and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship.

In recognition of his immense contribution to Indian music and culture, he was posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan and Bharat Ratna in 2019.

Bhupen Hazarika passed away on November 5, 2011, due to multi-organ failure. His funeral, attended by nearly half a million people, reflected the deep love and respect he commanded. His last song, “Vaishnav Jan To” from the 2011 film “Gandhi to Hitler”, was completed posthumously due to his ill health.

Meanwhile, Jackie Shroff is gearing up for his next film, “Welcome To The Jungle”, directed by Ahmed Khan. The ensemble comedy features a stellar cast including Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Arshad Warsi, Paresh Rawal, Raveena Tandon, Disha Patani, Lara Dutta, Jacqueline Fernandez, and several others.
